This one-day workshop is designed for home gardeners looking to improve their edible landscape with increased crop production, innovative growing strategies, new agricultural skills, and resources for a small business.

A panel of three urban farmers will share inspiring stories and best practices. Two keynote presentations will speak about climate change adaptation techniques and building healthy soils. After lunch, participants will tour a backyard garden and an urban farm. Whether you are an accomplished urban farmer or just starting a backyard veggie garden, this workshop will get you fired up and provide supportive resources to point you in the right direction.

Keynote Speakers:

Shawn Harrison Co-Founder, Soil Born Farms - Rancho Cordova
Shawn will share his 25 years of experience training people to “Grow Their Own Groceries” He will talk about adaptation strategies he has employed to grow in an ever-changing climate.

Jeremy Watts Owner/Operator, Edible Ecology - Richmond

Jeremy will share his ecological approach to designing sustainable and dynamic human habitats, integrating natural permaculture principles that help build resilient home gardens and increase food and water security. Jeremy will speak passionately about building healthy soils through regenerative agricultural practices.

Urban Farm Panel:
The Urban Farm Panel will be moderated by Hanna Kahl, Ecological Management Specialist with Community Alliance with Family Farms (CAFF). Joining the panel are three of Sacramento ‘s finest urban agriculturists:

Chanowk Yisrael with Yisrael Farm -
Started with a ½ acre backyard farm in Sacramento with his wife Judith and have expanded to multiple locations. They are using urban agriculture as a tool for community engagement, empowerment and employment. They run an online farm stand and make value-added products including soaps, salves, and tinctures.

Randy Stannard with Root 64 Farm -
1 acre backyard farm in Sacramento with his wife Sarah Mcamman. They consciously grow food for their local community, using ecological methods to build and maintain healthy soil and to support a vibrant farm ecosystem specializing in growing more in less space. They host a weekly farm stand, sell to local chefs, and sell bags of their growing medium

Jason Perdichizzi with Yard to Fork -
Jason runs an edible landscape company in Sacramento. He specializes in foodscape design, raised garden bed installation, edible garden coaching, and organic maintenance services.
